My Background
I
was born in a small town in New York, called Manhattan, but nine years
later my family soon gave that up for a smaller place--Poughkeepsie, NY.
Since IBM was headquartered in Poughkeepsie, you could say that I grew
up both in the midst of the technical revolution and in its heart. But
it would be 47 years before I bought my first computer and 64 years before
I authored my first web page. Meanwhile, I had a
33-year career as a journalist. I was a big-shot editor in New York (Newsday) and
in Los Angeles (The Los Angeles Times Syndicate). You could look
it up. I also took a crack at co-owning and operating a weekly newspaper,
The
Keystone Gazette, in Central Pennsylvania. It was a nice little paper
but it didn't work out--on paper (if you know what I mean).
Now I am retired. I live in Merritt Island on
the Space Coast of Florida near the Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach..
I have family and ex-family scattered all over the country. There's my
brother Paul in California, my brother Stan in Southern Florida, my son
David in upstate N.Y. (with wife, Tori, and grandsons Caleb and Oliver} , and my daughter,
Jill, in Washington You may wonder what I do
in retirement. I spend 18 hours a day at the computer, 4 or 5 on the golf
course, 2 or 3 editing the local jazz society newsletter, and 5 or 6 photographing
birds and other outdoor subjects. If those numbers don't add up, so be
it. I always could write but I was lousy at math.
